Seminar on Climate Actions and the Joint Crediting Mechanism in Indonesia
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Indonesia JCM Secretariat, Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Indonesia (CMEA) jointly organised the “Seminar on Climate Actions and the Joint Crediting Mechanism in Indonesia” on 7 February 2019.
The Seminar facilitated discussions on the latest updates in domestic energy policy and market mechanisms, in order to foster climate actions in Indonesia. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources shared the recently published Ministerial Regulation on Rooftop Solar Panel System and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs shared the progress on preparatory work for setting up a domestic market-based mechanism in Indonesia. As for an international market mechanism, IGES shared that at COP 24, countries adopted general rules on accounting for market mechanisms outcomes under the Paris Agreement, notably the responsibility of countries in avoiding double counting of units. IGES also shared information on the JCM Model Project Financing Programme which provides funding to support climate actions in the country. Perusahaan Daerah Pertambangan & Energi (PDPDE) and the City of Semarang shared their experiences in developing and implementing projects that have been selected by the Financing Programme. Participants from the private sector and government agencies engaged in enthusiastic discussions on utilising the JCM and creating new projects. As demonstrated through the Seminar, the JCM has contributed to building the capacity and confidence of both the public and private sectors in implementing low-carbon technology projects and utilising market-based mechanisms to mitigate climate change.
